While I like Sarah Palin, I don’t believe that her selection will help McCain among women, particularly those disaffected Hillary Clinton supporters who are having trouble supporting Obama. Unlike Clinton, Palin hasn’t been a strong voice on women’s issues. Nor has she been in a position to voice her views on national-security issues that are also important to women.
Of greater concern is McCain’s age. At 72, he has survived cancer, and spent 6 years being tortured as a POW. While an unpleasant reality, it was incumbent on McCain to select a running mate who is ready to be Commander-in-Chief. On that count, he failed.
